If it weren't for names, this crap would be a breeze, or fighting silverbacks are sweet!

I can't come up with a last name for my character Finn in my new novel. It's killing me and making me grumpy.
Finnegan Grumpy...nope, shit.
I'm sitting in Starbucks, looking at a blond woman who I know from somewhere but I refuse to ask her about it because saying: do I know you from somewhere? is akin to saying: wanna bang?
Finnegan Wannabang...Is awesome, but the wrong kind of awesome.
Anyway, I like last names that are nouns or other words. I like last names that are homonyms (you know, the kind that are spelled different but sound the same. Like Kerse or Konseid or maybe even some that don't start with K.)
Finnegan Konseid...sounds like a Russian spy who lives in the suburbs and takes naughty photos of himself.
Please, if you are reading this, help a fellow out before I use Finnegan Placeholder.

All she needs is a tattoo of a mythical lizard...

I just finished the second Stieg Larsson book, The Girl who Played with Fire, and I love these books. I am holding off on the last one because it will be the last book Stieg ever writes as he died before the series was published.
The first book looks like this:

After a bit of google time, I learned that they are making an American/English language version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. There are rumors floating around about who should be the leading lady, one has a musician who looks like she swims in her own urine, but last night on TV I found the perfect actress:

Her name is Allison Scagliotti. I saw her on Warehouse 13's second season premiere, and she was on the run from the show's patriarch Arty. The way she moves, sounds, and looks is pure Lisbeth from the books. I know it won't happen, they'll probably cast Julia Roberts to play the 25 year old and do some CGI work for no reason, but if they have a tight budget and need a girl that fits the part without any help, my vote is for Allison.

Watch this show!

Party Down is the type of show that can keep creative people from killing themselves. Some people find writing to be a freeing thing, I find it to be a struggle, and I find that I lose that struggle more than I win.
The characters on Party Down know exactly what that's like.
The show is on Starz, but I caught it on Netflix streaming. After every hard fought battle, this show really puts the funny spin on my failures and reminds me not to give up--even though the main character is a failure who has given up.
Plus it's directed by Mutha Effin' Fred "Going-to-get-Whinnie-Cooper-if-it-kills-him-and-Columbo-reads-him-The-Princess-Bride-when-he's-sick-first-kid-to-play-Mario-3" Savage!

Free internet and you

If you want free internet, and you want coffee made with robot love, then go to your local Starbucks. I don't normally write at the bucks, but the library was closed today so I did. The place was--for the first time I can recall--absolutely packed. It wasn't because of other displaced library people because I didn't recognize anyone. Instead, it had to have something to do with their new policy about free WiFi. I heard at least seven people in three hours ask if the net was free, and saw many more connect before they'd buy a drink.
At one point an employee even made loud reference to the fact that they have been swamped since July 1 when they started offering free internet to all.
Friendly advice, the bucks is now the hot spot for more than AT&T customers, but don't be this guy:

Taking your Xbox and a TV and a headset mic to the Starbucks is NOT OK!
Peace!

I used to say howdy.

When I waited tables, I used to say howdy. I worked at a Bob Evan's and the old people loved that crap.
Now, if I say howdy it makes me want to barf.
So I won't say that, I'll say hello instead.
Hello world, I'm a writer. I hope we get along.
Plus, getting published can't be much more difficult than building this Rubie G Device, right?
